BACOLOD CITY – Authorities recovered the body of a 33-year-old laborer Wednesday after he was swept away by flash floodwaters in Purok Sab-a, Barangay Montilla, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.
Police Major Ryan Villasario, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, identified the victim as “Jeremy.”
Villasario said the victim was crossing the Binalbagan River on Tuesday to guide his father when strong currents carried him away.
His father, who witnessed the incident, immediately called for help, prompting authorities to launch a search-and-rescue operation.
The victim’s body was found in a river in Barangay 4, about 15 kilometers from where he was swept away.
Villasario said the victim sustained bruises, possibly after hitting rocks along the river.
State weather authorities had issued a heavy rainfall warning and flood advisory Tuesday due to the shear line affecting the Visayas, which triggered flooding in several areas.
