The recently concluded Milo BEST Coach Nic Jorge 3×3 Cup Visayas Finals basketball tournament was a success last February 12, 2023, held at the Barotac Viejo Municipal Gymnasium.
Presented by Milo and the Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (BEST) Center, almost hundreds of hoops enthusiasts from Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Roxas City flocked to the Barotac Viejo gymnasium to vie for the prestigious title in the different categories.
In the 18-under women’s category, the visiting Abellana National School from Cebu reigned supreme after nipping the University of San Agustin-Iloilo in the grand finals.
San Agustin would later on bounce back and bag the 18-under men’s category after outlasting the brave trio from Dumalag.
For the 16-under men’s category, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu ended their magnificent run with the championship title after beating the Bacolod Tay Tung team.
Bacolod refused to go down without a fight in the 14-under men’s category when Team Sharks got the huge win against the Batang Mandirigma team from Cebu.
For the last category of the tournament, the Bacolod Tay Tung got the last laugh against the Hua Siong College of Iloilo in the gold medal showdown of the men’s 12-under.
The event was graced by Mayor Nielo C. Tupas, BEST Center President Mrs. Marilyn Jorge, BEST Center executive Vice President Monica Jorge, and Ms. Grace Galusong of Milo.
“This is the first that we had this Coach Nic Jorge 3×3 tournament, hopefully we will have more areas to join in the future and many thanks to Mayor Nielo “Bong” Tupas for the support and the Barotac Viejo LGU,” said commissioner Mr. Ronnie Degala in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
According to Mr. Degala, this 3×3 basketball event was organized to honor the founder of BEST Center, the late Nicanor Jorge who became the national coach when the country competed at the 1978 FIBA World Championships.
