The Converge FiberXers made it known that they are planning to keep the hardworking Mike Nieto in a long-term deal.
Converge announced that they just offered a fresh two-year contract extension to Nieto and is expected to bring their much-needed two-way effort when the PBA conference kicks off in the following months.
The signing ceremony was done last June 28, 2023, held at the Gatorade Hoops Center together with several big names in the Converge management.
Present during the signing were team manager Jacob Lao, head coach Aldin Ayo, Titan Sports Management agent PJ Pilares, and assistant team manager CK Kanapi-Daniolco.
Nieto became a fast-rising rookie star after getting drafted by the Rain or Shine Elastopainters but was eventually shipped to the FiberXers in exchange for future picks.
The former Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) superstar quickly went to work with Rain or Shine and immediately gained their trust when he became a much improved three-point shooter, a department of his game that was inconsistent during his college heydays.
Matched with his defensive tenacity and work ethic, Nieto was a young role model to the Elastopainters but their loaded small forward spot led to his departure.
Now under the tutelage of coach Ayo, Nieto was seen adapting fast to Converge’s high-octane style of play and meshed well with the team.
Nieto had several breakout games during the ongoing PBA On Tour Preseason and is currently a part of their defensive unit together with Alec Stockton and the rest of the two-way guys.
