After a nip-and-tuck affair with the Aklan Polytechnic College in the National Basketball Training Center League championship match, the Melchor Memorial School Inc. got the better of them, 68-60, at Ibajay, Aklan.
The winner will represent the province of Aklan in the upcoming NBTC-Regional qualifiers next year.
It was a trade of firepower in the early stages of the game as APC started the game waxing hot, drilling shots from the perimeter with ease.
Adjustments have been made after the scoring spree, as MMSI started to press APC and it paid off, collecting loose balls from turnovers for an easy deuce.
Halfway through the final frame, MMSI then started to connect with timely baskets that enabled them to pull away with a decent deficit.
APC showed signs of fighting back but the champions looked unstoppable in the paint and gave APC numerous mismatches underneath.
Vince Cabales from MMSI was awarded as the most outstanding player.
The NBTC tournament was brought to you by SM, Chooks to Go, Phoenix, Go for Gold, Darlington, Exped, Molten, SBP, Smart, Vivo, Cignal, and ESPN 5.
