Mayweather-Tyson exhibition match all set to take place in Africa

And it’s on.

After months of speculation and circulating rumors, boxing icons Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mike Tyson have finally reached an agreement for their upcoming exhibition bout scheduled for April 25, 2026.

The development was first verified by The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, who added that the highly anticipated fight will take place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

After Coppinger’s surprising boxing update, the Vice Premier Minister of Congo also publicly announced that the fight is happening.

According to some insiders, the reason why the Democratic Republic of the Congo was chosen as the final venue was to honor the 52nd anniversary of the 1974 legendary boxing fight, tagged as “Rumble in the Jungle,” where Muhammad Ali got the better of George Foreman in Kinshasa.

The Mayweather-Tyson exhibition rumors first surfaced in September, but negotiations stalled when neither camp could agree on an exact date and location.

However, Tyson revealed that fight details neared completion during the first week of Feb. 2026, reviving the hopes of boxing fans who wanted to see how the former heavyweight champion can fare against the younger Mayweather.

So far since entering the world of boxing exhibitions, Tyson has yet to rack up more fights and has only appeared in two scheduled main cards against Corey Sanders and Roy Jones Jr.

The first fight against Sanders was more like a real exhibition setting, but his clash against Jones Jr. looked more serious as both boxers engaged in several slugfests, only for the decision to be called a draw.

On the other hand, Mayweather began accepting exhibition bouts as early as Dec. 2018, where he knocked out Tenshin Nasukawa in the first round.

Mayweather also took part in entertaining fights, specifically against YouTuber Logan Paul, Japanese MMA star Mikuru Asakura, and American MMA veteran John Gotti III.

As of this writing, the rules of the exhibition bout have yet to be confirmed, including the full list of boxers set to fight in the undercard.
