The Dallas Mavericks fan base finally got its wish.
On Nov. 12, 2025, Nico Harrison, the mastermind behind the shocking Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, was relieved of his role as Dallas’ general manager.
It was team governor Patrick Dumont who announced their latest in-season move, following Dallas’ dismal 3-8 start in the ongoing NBA regular season.
“This decision reflects our continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization, one that delivers for our players, our partners, and most importantly, our fans,” said Dumont.
The Mavericks then confirmed that assistant general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will fill the co-interim GM posts in the meantime as Dallas is still in a “comprehensive search” for their next front office executive.
Months after admitting that he was behind Doncic’s departure from Dallas, Harrison quickly turned from hero to zero when the Dallas fan base coined him as their “public enemy No. 1.”
Harrison backed his decision that acquiring Anthony Davis from the Lakers could give Dallas its best shot at winning a championship title, but the results so far have not surpassed expectations, as they failed to secure a playoff ticket last season.
To make things worse, the Mavericks are currently sitting at the 14th spot in the Western Conference, winning only three out of their first 11 regular-season games.
Davis once again kicked off the new NBA season with injury woes and is yet to return to the Mavericks, nursing a calf injury he suffered against the Indiana Pacers last Oct. 30.
On the other hand, Doncic has been a monster for the Lakers as the Slovenian sensation is currently averaging 37.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game while steering Los Angeles to an impressive 8-3 record.
“I did know that Luka was important to the fan base. I didn’t quite know it to what level,” Harrison said in a press conference last April.
