BACOLOD CITY — Authorities discovered at least 3,000 fully grown marijuana stalks worth PHP 600,000 in Sitio Mangga, Barangay Manduao, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, over the weekend.
Personnel from the Bayawan City Police Station and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company were conducting intelligence monitoring related to the service of an arrest warrant when they came across a suspected marijuana plantation while patrolling on foot Saturday.
The plants were found in a remote area with difficult terrain.
Due to distance and safety concerns, police uprooted and burned the plants on-site after proper documentation, in the presence of barangay officials.
Authorities preserved five stalks for laboratory examination, chemical analysis, and proper disposition at the Provincial Forensic Unit.
Police Lt. Col. Joeson Parallag, chief of the Bayawan City Police Station, reiterated their commitment to proactive policing and the relentless pursuit of a drug-free community.
He called on the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts.
