A 29-year-old man died instantly after he was shot while driving through Barangay Mandog, Janiuay, Iloilo, on the evening of April 28.
The body of Rostom Llanora, 29, a resident of Barangay Aquino Nobleza West, Janiuay, was found sprawled in the middle of the road next to his motorcycle.
He sustained pellet wounds on the right side of his back.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office brought him to Roman Tirador Memorial District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Capt. Hector Ayagan, Janiuay police chief, said they received the report about the shooting in Madong village at around 10 p.m.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was driving his motorcycle when the suspect flagged him down.
An eyewitness claimed the gunman shot the victim once with a 12-gauge shotgun before fleeing.
Ayagan said the victim was able to identify the suspect before losing consciousness.
The eyewitness declined to formally testify, citing personal safety concerns.
Based on the suspect’s profile, investigators believe the attack may have been a crime of passion.
Police said the victim, who had a live-in partner, was also reportedly in a relationship with another woman from nearby Cabatuan town.
“We’re still investigating if the woman is in a relationship with another man,” Ayagan said.
Following the shooting, police have been unable to locate either the live-in partner or the alleged girlfriend.
Ayagan confirmed that the victim was a newly identified drug personality.
