A 33-year-old man was shot dead during a birthday party early Thursday evening in a hinterland village in Janiuay, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as alias Ronald, 33, a resident of Barangay Canaullian, about 25 kilometers from the Janiuay town proper.
Capt. Randy Lambungan, Janiuay police chief, said the incident happened around 7:15 p.m., but police were informed about it around 8 p.m.
The victim’s brother told police that a certain Marshal, 34, also of Barangay Canaullian, shot Ronald.
The victim died of a gunshot wound to the right eye.
Members of the Janiuay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office brought the victim to Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Lambungan said the suspect fled after the incident.
Police investigators are looking into the possibility that the shooting happened while both the victim and the suspect were under the influence of liquor.
Lambungan said the suspect and the victim had no known grudges.
He added that police are working to facilitate the suspect’s surrender.
