Gunmen kill 62-year-old en route to Iloilo court

ILOILO CITY — A 62-year-old man was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Anilao, Iloilo, on the morning of July 28.

Police identified the victim only as “Danny,” a resident of Sitio Mumwik in Barangay Dangulaan, Anilao.

The victim was traveling with his 14-year-old daughter, Daniella, when the attack occurred.

The two were riding a motorcycle from their home to Barotac Viejo to attend a court hearing.

After crossing the national highway in Barangay Dangaan at about 6:30 a.m., Danny stopped on the side of the road.

Two men on a motorcycle approached them and, without apparent provocation, shot Danny several times.

Danny and his daughter managed to run toward nearby houses.

The gunmen chased them and continued shooting Danny even after he had collapsed on the pavement.

At one point, Daniella used her body to shield her father when one of the gunmen attempted to shoot him in the head.

The suspects fled toward the municipality of Banate.

Officers from the Anilao Municipal Police Station launched a pursuit operation, but no arrests were made.

Investigators learned that Danny was a respondent in a grave threats case filed by a relative.

Danny had also filed countercharges of attempted homicide and attempted murder against the same relative.

Police have not established whether the pending cases were connected to the killing.

Investigators recovered 16 spent .45-caliber cartridge cases from the crime scene.
