Man dies after swimming at Barotac Viejo resort

ILOILO CITY — A man died after he was found unresponsive while swimming at a beach resort in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 1.
The victim, identified only as alias Jemar, was a resident of Barangay Balabag in San Rafael, Iloilo.
Police said Jemar went swimming with family members and friends at San Roque Beach Resort in Barangay San Roque.
He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he entered the water at about 12:30 p.m.
A concerned individual later alerted Jemar’s family and friends after he failed to resurface.
The Philippine Coast Guard was immediately notified of the incident.
Coast Guard personnel conducted patrol and search-and-retrieval operations in the area.
The victim was recovered at about 12:45 p.m., approximately 50 meters from where he was last seen.
He was unresponsive and had no pulse when rescuers found him.
A Coast Guard personnel member immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an attempt to revive him.
Jemar was taken to Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. District Hospital in Barotac Viejo, where he was later declared dead.
Authorities had yet to release the official cause of death.
