A 23-year-old man was jailed after he allegedly killed his neighbor in a knife attack on the evening of May 18 in Arevalo, Iloilo City.
A murder case was filed against Jester, a resident of Zone 1, Barangay Dulanon, Arevalo.
Capt. Michael Tuburan, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 6, said it was not clear how and why the suspect and the victim, identified as 51-year-old Jose, got into a fight.
Tuburan said the victim had invited Jester to drink with him at a roadside store in Dulanon village around 8 p.m.
The store owner claimed it was not long before the two had a misunderstanding that led to a verbal altercation.
The suspect immediately went home and took a knife.
He went back to where the victim was and allegedly attacked him.
Jester allegedly stabbed Jose on the left side of his armpit and other parts of his body.
He immediately fled the crime scene, leaving behind the weapon he allegedly used.
Jose was brought to Western Visayas Medical Center but died while undergoing treatment.
Tuburan said the victim and the suspect had no known prior conflict.
Reports, however, said Jester was not on good terms with Jose’s brother.
The suspect also admitted that he was previously involved in a frustrated murder case after allegedly stabbing another man.
He was incarcerated for eight months and was released in 2025.
