BACOLOD CITY — A dispute over electricity turned violent when a 43-year-old man allegedly hacked his 29-year-old cousin in Sitio Balogo, Barangay Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, resulting in the victim losing his left hand.
Police Maj. Ryan Villasario, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said the victim, identified only as “Jeneven,” was at home when his cousin, known as “Rico,” who was allegedly intoxicated, arrived shortly before midnight.
Villasario said the suspect confronted the victim over an accusation that he was responsible for the loss of electricity in their area.
When the victim attempted to step outside the house, the suspect allegedly struck him twice on the left arm and hand with a cane cutter, causing the hand to be severed.
Police officers on mobile patrol noticed a commotion nearby and found the victim injured and crying for help.
The victim was immediately brought to the town infirmary and later transferred to a hospital, where he is recovering.
The suspect was arrested and is facing a charge of frustrated homicide.
