The Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO 6) has ramped up the release of motor vehicle plates and intensified roadside inspections across Western Visayas.
Under the supervision of Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu instructed law enforcement officers and deputized agents to boost patrol operations and ensure all vehicles display license plates correctly.
“This campaign underscores our commitment to improve road safety, facilitate vehicle identification and ensure compliance with transportation regulations,” stated LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II in a May 2 memorandum.
The order cited Section 18 of Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which requires plates to be prominently displayed at all times.
To accelerate distribution, LTO 6 has released over 13,000 plates for motorcycles for hire and more than 200 for private motorcycles and tricycles.
Beginning this month, the New Registration Unit in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro, Iloilo City, will open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to serve private vehicle owners.
Claimants must bring the original Certificate of Registration (CR) and an updated Official Receipt (OR).
“We encourage all eligible owners to visit our New Registration Unit—even on weekends—for quicker release of their plates,” Conlu said.
LTO 6 inspectors are also promoting the LTO Plate Tracker (https://ltotracker.com), an online tool that allows motorists to check plate availability in real time.
Field officers demonstrate the system during roadside operations and offer on-the-spot assistance.
Director Geduspan announced that a “No Plate, No Travel” policy will be enforced in the coming weeks to prevent unregistered or unidentifiable vehicles from operating on public roads.
“Strict enforcement of plate display rules will support law enforcement, foster discipline and enhance public safety,” Geduspan said.
The plate release and inspection initiative aligns with national goals under President Marcos Jr. and DOTr Secretary Dizon, the LTO said.
Motorists are reminded to comply with registration requirements to avoid penalties and help ensure safer roads for all.
