The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has issued a show-cause order against a vlogger from Aklan caught on video performing a dangerous motorcycle stunt without a valid driver’s license.
The vlogger, identified as Jimmy Lagunday Catarata of Barangay San Isidro, Ibajay, was filmed lying face-down on top of a moving motorcycle, wearing only underwear and a sleeveless shirt while biting the hem of his shorts.
The video went viral on social media and prompted swift action from LTO-6.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II said the stunt took place on a national road in Aklan province.
He said the act constitutes reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act 4136, which prohibits operating a motor vehicle without reasonable caution, thereby endangering life and property.
“Operating a vehicle in such a manner, without caution or regard for safety, is a clear violation of the law,” Geduspan said.
LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu also stressed the serious risk the stunt posed to both the vlogger and the public.
A background check revealed that Catarata has never held a valid driver’s license.
Under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01, he faces a PHP3,000 fine for driving without a license and could be permanently disqualified from obtaining one.
The show-cause order was personally served by the LTO Kalibo District Office.
Catarata has five days from receipt of the order to submit a written explanation.
Failure to comply will be treated as a waiver of his right to respond, and the case will proceed based on available evidence.
“What he did was extremely dangerous,” said Engr. Marlon Velez, chief of the LTO Kalibo District Office.
“As a content creator, he should be setting a good example. Instead, he promoted reckless behavior.”
Velez added that online content can serve as admissible evidence in such cases.
Catarata reportedly admitted the stunt was staged to attract views and generate income.
Despite this, LTO-6 emphasized that violations involving unlicensed driving and reckless endangerment carry serious consequences, including possible arrest and criminal charges.
The enforcement action aligns with the national government’s campaign to promote road safety, in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive.
The LTO, led by Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, continues to crack down on unsafe driving and traffic violations nationwide.
