After a stellar 2020 run in his skateboarding career, local skater Christopher Leccio Hurich, popularly known as “Ping”, will look to start his 2021 campaign with a banger after getting a nomination in the Asia Skateboarding Awards.
Born in Mambusao, Capiz and now a resident of Iloilo City, Ping took the national scene by storm and bagged the prestigious crown in the Annual National Vans Philippines Go Skateboarding Day Men’s Best Run Category.
This time, it’s different.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian, Ping confirmed this to be his first-ever international skateboarding recognition, the reason for his immense excitement and different level of appreciation.
The Asia Skateboarding Awards committee is yet to lay down the specific categories for the awards but Ping was already nominated as one of the awardees.
Through social media and Instagram, Ping was nominated by a certain group of people together with the other talented Filipino skaters all over the country.
“I would like to thank my mom. Without her non-stop support and love, I wouldn’t have continued skating and reached where I am today. Also I would like to thank my friends within the skateboarding community abroad and here in the Philippines. Shout out to all the local brands in Iloilo City that have supported me (BREAD, GRAMPY and ILL CITY Clothing) Thank you to my official sponsors: Collide Skate Co., Vans Philippines, Skatewerx Skateshop, Destructo Trucks, Trapr Socks, Palaboy Wheels, Kalabit Penge Bearings, and Board Sport (Dumaguete),” Ping said during his interview.
