After two months of a dead heat between Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors, both parties finally shared common ground when the athletic forward agreed to re-sign with the franchise, announced on Oct. 1, 2025.
According to ESPN’s veteran NBA insider Shams Charania, Kuminga is set to sign a two-year, USD 48.5 million contract extension, which includes a team option for the next offseason.
After the end of Golden State’s playoff run, Kuminga became a restricted free agent but failed to ink the early re-signing offer from the Warriors.
Before the two-year agreement, Golden State handed Kuminga a three-year, USD 75 million contract, but the skipper decided to explore a couple of sign-and-trades from the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns.
On July 25, both franchises reached out to Kuminga regarding his preferred contract terms, but the Western Conference teams also failed to materialize the ongoing negotiation.
Kuminga’s playing time dipped last season following the arrival of superstar Jimmy Butler, who took over his starting role.
Butler joined the Warriors in a blockbuster five-team trade that sent Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a 2025 first-round pick out of Golden State.
Kuminga remained productive in his limited starts, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists across 10 games in the regular season.
The Warriors had begun integrating him into key offensive sets, but Butler’s arrival relegated Kuminga to a bench role as a high-energy two-way player.
His minutes further declined in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, where he played just 18 minutes over three games against the Houston Rockets.
He bounced back in the West semifinals, showing flashes of star potential with scoring outings of 18, 30, 23, and 26 points in games two through five against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Despite his efforts, the Stephen Curry-less Warriors fell short.
Now that Kuminga is back, Golden State became early favorites to make a deep NBA playoff run, boosted by the addition of NBA champion Al Horford, who agreed to a multi-year deal with the Warriors.
