Japanese superstar Kei Nishikori withdrew from the nearing ATP Cup, after revealing that he is still recovering from his elbow injury.
The former world number four who fell to the 13th spot expressed his desire in joining the ATP Cup a few months ago during his rehabilitation period.
Nishikori said that the ATP Cup would be the perfect tournament for his comeback because some of the heavyweights will grace the event such as Thomas Berdych, David Ferrer, Gregor Dimtrov, and Gael Monfils, and playing with these kind of veterans after an injury would help develop his consistent level of play.
Since his elbow operation last October, Nishikori has been optimistic towards his comeback, but he, together with his team doctors have agreed that he won’t be playing if he’s not 100 percent.
Nishikori said that they can’t risk the effort and the rehab they did after the surgery, and the good thing to think about right now is to prepare for the grand slam tourney this 2020.
