KAYA Futbol Club’s inaugural Women’s team is gearing up for its first competitive match on Sunday, as it begins its campaign in the fourth season of the Philam Life’s 7’s Football League. Set to face fellow newcomer, Beach Hut, at 6:30PM, at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City, Kaya’s newly formed squad is eager to showcase its talent.
Former University of the Philippines goalkeeper, Nicole Adlawan, will be among those to take the field for Kaya on Sunday, in what she admits will be a fresh experience for her.
“It’s my first time to play in a 7’s league, and to play with a professional team like Kaya. I don’t know what to expect yet, but I’m pretty sure everyone’s excited to showcase what we’re capable of as a team,” she said at the league’s official launch.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to make history, not only for Kaya, but for the women’s game. We’ve always wanted to professionalize women’s football,” she added. “I’m grateful not only to be a part of Kaya, but to be training with really good players.”
Led by current Women’s National Team Head Coach Let Dimzon, and with a squad composed of former college standouts and current national team players, the Kaya Women’s Team enters the 7’s Football League carrying a weight of expectation.
But for Nic Adlawan, the team’s focus is simple.
“We have one goal, and that’s to work together as a family as we make history for the club.” (Kaya FC)
