Kaya FC to hold tryouts for Inaugural Women’s Team

KAYA Futbol Club is set to a hold tryout for its first ever Women’s team.

As announced via the club’s official social media accounts, current Philippine Women’s National Team coach, Marnelli “Let” Dimzon, will be spearheading the new endeavor.

The tryout is set to take place on Thursday, July 25, 6-8pm, at BGC Turf, and is open to all players looking to compete at the pinnacle of the women’s game.

While Kaya FC’s Men’s and Youth teams compete actively in both national and international competitions, the club will be starting from scratch with its women’s team.

“Because we are late in entering this segment of football, we needed to show our serious intentions to this endeavor,” said club general manager Paul Tolentino. “It’s important to make clear that we’re committed to making this as successful as possible.”

With that in mind, the club tapped the services of Let Dimzon, who most recently came impressively close to leading the Philippine team to its first ever inclusions in the World Cup, and the Olympics. Dimzon’s resume is quite the read. As a player she was a three-time UAAP Champion with Far Eastern University, and a decade-long National Team midfielder. Her coaching credentials are even more robust.

She’s managed to guide the Lady Tamaraws to four UAAP titles, including an impressive three-peat, while also leading the U-14 Girls to a Runners-up finish in an ASEAN Championship during the same period.

“Bringing in Let Dimzon, we hope, shows our intentions,” said Tolentino. “Her being a successful national team player, and now coach, is an exciting prospect for us.”

“Watching the Women’s World Cup made me ask, ‘What were we doing not providing an avenue for women’s football?’  It became glaringly obvious that a club of Kaya’s caliber, which competes continentally as well as domestically, should be involved in bringing our structure and passion to this area of the game. We needed to get our act together and get this off the ground immediately,” he said.

“Now it’s all about building a team, finding the right players that embody the club culture, and competing in the available leagues,” he added. “We’re a little late for the upcoming Women’s League, but we’re looking to maybe start in the 7’s Football League and move on from there,” added Tolentino.
