7-foot-2 teen sensation Kai Sotto just announced he is joining the Gilas Pilipinas as it tries to maintain its record in the next window of FIBA which will be hosted by the Philippines.
Despite the heavy practice schedule in the G-league, Sotto said he is firm with his decision and will be flying back to the Philippines once Gilas’ practice schedule is all set.
“I am really looking forward to join my former teammates and the PBA players that I idolized growing up. Together with them, I hope we play our best and to bring glory to our country,” said Sotto.
Clark Pampanga has been chosen by the FIBA officials to be the venue for the February window of the qualifiers.
The news is a big boost for the Filipinos as they will have quite an advantage playing at home in familiar territory.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) program director Tab Baldwin praised Sotto’s decision of joining the team despite the load with the G-league and shared how excited he was to work with the prized big man.
“Everybody is hopeful. We all can’t wait to welcome Kai back to the Gilas fold and take the next step forward toward 2023 with him. I’m very excited to hear that he has a passion for it as well,” said Baldwin.
