ROXAS CITY, Capiz—A barangay kagawad from Cuartero town was arrested Thursday morning, July 3, in Barangay East Villaflores, Maayon, Capiz, following the implementation of a search warrant for illegal gun possession.
Police filed charges on Friday, July 4, against the suspect, identified as alias “Tom,” 47, a kagawad of Barangay Carataya, Cuartero, who was temporarily residing in Barangay East Villaflores, Maayon.
The charges were filed for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The suspect was arrested during the execution of a search warrant by personnel of the Maayon PNP, the 1st Capiz Police Mobile Force Company, and the SWAT team.
Recovered from the suspect was an improvised 12-gauge break-type handgun locally known as a “pugakhang,” loaded with one live round, along with an additional similar ammunition.
The search warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Lorencito B. Diaz of Branch 17 in Roxas City, dated July 1, 2025.
The suspect is currently in the custody of Maayon PNP for proper disposition.
Police said the operation followed a month of monitoring and surveillance.
