Kagawad arrested in gun raid

A barangay official was arrested following a firearm raid early morning on July 25 in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
Police arrested Benigno Montalvo Jr., 46, after an unlicensed firearm was recovered during the operation at his house in Barangay Cabunotan, Miag-ao.
Members of Miag-ao Municipal Police Station, together with the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company (IPMFC) and 601st Regional Mobile Force Company, raided the suspect’s house under the authority of Search Warrant No. 09-2024.
Judge Nelita Jesusa Arboleda-Bacaling of MCTC Branch 72, Guimbal, Iloilo issued the search warrant on July 24, 2024.
Recovered during the operation was a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
Captain Francis Donne Lomahan, Miag-ao police chief, said the raid followed complaints against the suspect for the illegal discharge of a firearm.
Montalvo is now detained and will be charged with violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
