K9 breeding, training facility up soon in Guimaras

The province of Guimaras is set to become the home for the K-9 Training, Hospital and Breeding Center.

Governor Samuel T. Gumarin and Commodore Allan Victor Dela Vega, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Western Visayas District, signed the Deed of Usufruct for the center on Nov 11, 2019 at the Governor’s Conference Room, PEO Building in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

The agreement shall pave the way for the PCG to utilize a 20,000-square meter lot at Barangay Sapal, San Lorenzo, Guimaras owned by the provincial government.

Dela Vega thanked the provincial government for allowing the agency to utilize the land area for 25 years.

Dela Vega said that the construction of the center might commence in 2021.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa Province of Guimaras, kay Governor Gumarin for letting us use their property. The project may commence 2021,” Dela Vega said.

The trained canines will be deployed to the different Coast Guard stations in the country.

The Coast Guard considers Guimaras as the ideal location for the project that is vital for ensuring safe and orderly maritime security.

Gumarin said that the Provincial Government recognizes the role of the PCG in the local government unit and supports the fulfillment of its mandate and commitment to save lives, ensure safe maritime transport, cleaner seas and secure maritime jurisdiction.

Further, this will strengthen the capability of the Coast Guard to enforce maritime laws in the island according to Gumarin.

“Makabulig ini sa aton, sa Coast Guard ilabi na sa enforcement sang aton maritime laws,” Gumarin said.
