A jobless man was arrested during a police anti-drug operation on the evening of May 28 in Mina, Iloilo.
The suspect, identified only as “Carlo,” 29, was apprehended outside his home in Barangay Talibong Grande.
He was arrested by members of the Mina Municipal Police Station after allegedly selling a sachet of suspected shabu for PHP1,100.
Upon frisking, police found two more sachets of suspected shabu and several non-drug items in his possession.
Capt. Isagani Tabares, Mina police chief, said the confiscated drugs weighed about 80 grams, with an estimated street value of PHP544,000.
Tabares said Carlo’s arrest followed a three-week surveillance operation.
Authorities believe the suspect had been involved in the illegal drug trade for several months.
However, he was not listed by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) as a known drug personality.
Tabares added that Carlo had no prior drug-related arrests or any criminal record.
Reports indicated the suspect sourced his supply from a neighboring town and distributed it across Mina.
He is now in police custody and will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
