Police confirmed that the jeepney involved in a road mishap in Miagao, Iloilo was carrying 70 individuals, including the driver.
Citing updated reports, Maj. Richard Lao, Miagao police chief, said 62 passengers were treated as outpatients, while eight remain confined in hospitals.
Thirty-five victims were brought to Rep. Pedro G. Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal town.
Sixteen were taken to the Miagao Emergency Clinic and nine to a medical facility in San Joaquin town.
Two passengers sought treatment at Aleosan District Hospital.
Eight others, including minors, are confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.
Despite the number of injuries, police said it was fortunate that no fatalities were reported.
The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. on April 19 as a group of relatives and neighbors from Barangay Baong, Alimodian, Iloilo traveled to an excursion in San Joaquin town.
Driver Robert Alemania, 36, said he was navigating a curve in Barangay Dingle, Miagao, when he lost control of the vehicle.
He claimed he suddenly turned the steering wheel to the right, causing the jeepney to swerve and flip onto its left side.
The vehicle landed in the middle of the road in Barangay Maninila.
Lao said the jeepney’s maximum capacity was only 30.
Some passengers were sitting on the roof, while others were hanging onto the side stirrups.
Lao added that the vehicle showed no signs of mechanical failure.
Initial police investigation indicated that human error caused the accident.
