BACOLOD CITY — A 57-year-old jeepney driver tested positive for illegal drug use during the mandatory random drug testing of 101 drivers of jeepneys, buses, and other public utility vehicles (PUVs), including conductors, at the Bacolod South Terminal on Monday, Jan. 5.
The operation was part of “Oplan Harabas,” a nationwide initiative led by the Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR), in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-NIR and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG).
It aims to strengthen road safety enforcement and ensure commuter protection, particularly after the holiday season.
LTO-NIR officer-in-charge Jeck Conlu said in a statement that the program is intended to prevent impaired driving and promote commuter safety. He also urged transport operators to remain vigilant in monitoring their drivers and personnel.
The driver’s license was temporarily confiscated pending confirmatory testing.
Appropriate sanctions—including possible license revocation—will be imposed in line with the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
In November last year, LTO-NIR permanently revoked the licenses of six PUV drivers who tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise inspection at the Bacolod North Terminal.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement operations to promote discipline among drivers and protect the riding public.
