With 35 seconds left in the final canto, the ODM Sportswear squad trailed by as much as 8 points.
Just like the jaw-dropping cardiac finishes in other leagues, the ODM team pulled off an unexpected comeback against Hiyang Filinvest, 78-74, in one of the most epic overtime showdowns in the 2019 JB Amateur basketball league.
Jovie Faeldan consistently torched Filinvest from deep throughout the quarters, keeping the latter from taking the lead.
As the fourth quarter started, Filinvest’s main gunners Paul Lee and Michael Depatillo put the team behind their back to create a run of their own, snatching the lead away from ODM.
Things happened in a blitz during the last 35 seconds of the ball game, as ODM capped off one of the most exciting wins in the young league.
After a quick two from ODM’s Paul Poral, they got the ball back off a steal then trimmed the lead to just 3, after a Kins Go three-pointer.
The opportunity was in Filinvest’s hands to increase the cushion to 5 but all went to waste after missing two shots from the charity stripe.
Go played the hero as he bailed out his team by knocking down a three-pointer to force the game into overtime.
During the OT period, veteran Matthew Montalvo took over the game and the ODM squad never looked back.
Big man Poral won player of the game honors, chalking up 21 huge points, 6 boards, and a block.
