One of the best Filipino long jump athletes just shocked the world again after claiming the throne in the Triveneto Meeting Internazionale last July 23, 2023, held in Trieste, Italy.
Janry Ubas, a Philippine national team staple, continued his hot international streak of performances after clinching his second gold medal in just a week.
Last July 20, 2023, Ubas also made waves after reigning supreme during the Motonet Grand Prix Lappeenranta held in Finland.
Despite the exhaustion and jam-packed schedule, Ubas was still able to put up a decent performance after tallying the game-winning score of 7.72 meters.
Although lower than his 7.86-m score than the Motonet Grand Prix Lappeenranta, Ubas still earned the nod of his fellow male long jumpers after edging the best of the best representatives from the other countries.
It was a close contest for Ubas as Lester Lescay from Cuba was near to taking over his spot but only managed to reach the 7.71-m score to lock the silver medal.
Completing the cast of the podium finishers is Botswana’s Thapelo Monaiwa who bagged 7.54-m during his final attempt.
With the win, Ubas just boosted his momentum heading into the World Championships on August 19, 2023, to be held in Budapest, Hungary.
Before setting his sight on the big prize in Hungary, Ubas and his team confirmed that they will be stopping over in Germany on July 29 to take part in the European Series.
Aside from his twin gold medal outing in just four days, Ubas also cracked the men’s long jump top 55 rankings when he amassed a total of 1,160 points while securing the world no. 53 spot.
