MANY national and even international schools wanted to recruit her but Ilongga jumper Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks chose National University (NU) to be her new team.
Brooks, a native of Brgy. Buga Leon, Iloilo, formalized her commitment to the Bulldogs because she believed the school is willing to help develop her full potential in athletics.
“Aside from developing in my sport, I also want to take a business course, which I know NU is known for. I know there are people who will help me during my stay there,” she added.
Brooks won a gold medal in the recently concluded 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.
The former mainstay of Iloilo National High School (INHS) also got invites from other Manila-based schools such as University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and Ateneo de Manila University.
US-based schools also signified their interest to recruit Brooks.
Aside from high jump and running events, Brooks revealed that she was offered to tryout for the womens basketball team by NU Lady Bulldogs head coach Patrick Aquino.
“I considered the offer as they were eyeing me last Palaro to try out for their team. But I will focus first in athletics and hopefully, if my body is ready, I can try to play women’s basketball when I reach second year,” she added.
