As part of its rabies prevention campaign, the Iloilo provincial government vaccinated 213,667 dogs from February to April, covering 58% of the province’s estimated 367,907 dog population.
The provincial government hailed the milestone as a key step in protecting public health and promoting animal welfare.
“This affirms the unwavering commitment of all 43 local government units and the active support of local communities in promoting responsible pet ownership,” a government statement said.
The campaign was led by municipal and city veterinary offices with support from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian–Iloilo.
It mobilized paraveterinary teams, conducted house-to-house vaccinations and launched public information drives to encourage participation.
The campaign forms part of Iloilo’s broader program for health protection and zoonotic disease prevention.
The province aims to meet the global rabies control standard of 70% vaccination coverage.
With ongoing follow-up vaccinations and education campaigns, Iloilo is on track to close the coverage gap and reinforce its standing as a leader in animal health.
