A one-month crackdown against illegal gambling led to the arrest of hundreds of individuals.
Records from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 showed that operations from June 1 to 30 resulted in the arrest of 358 persons and the confiscation of P159,000.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOcPPO) accounted for 230 arrests, or 64.24 percent of the region’s total.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) apprehended 49 persons, while the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (PPO) arrested 25. Antique PPO and Aklan PPO each made 14 arrests, Capiz PPO had 13, the Iloilo City Police Office arrested seven, and the Guimaras PPO apprehended six.
Brigadier General Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police chief, noted that the arrests demonstrated the police’s focus on various illegal activities, not just on illegal drugs and wanted persons.
“All forms of illegal activities are strictly watched, and if evidence warrants, those involved will be subjected to law enforcement operations,” he said.
