From the Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA), and the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) tournament, the Hua Siong Red Phoenix secondary basketball squad made it clear they were the kings of Western Visayas basketball.
Clinching the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association championship title (WVPRISAA), it was all business for the boys from Hua Siong after trouncing the mighty Colegio de Sta. Ana Victorias squad from Negros Occidental, 97-78.
The WVPRISAA victory improved Hua Siong’s tournament winning streak to four and have been undefeated in every tournament they joined.
Prevailing over the best high school teams from Capiz and Aklan during the elimination rounds, the Red Phoenix cruised through every team and showed dominance throughout.
Hua Siong’s Cedrick Manzano rose to the occasion as his teammates consistently dumped the ball to him underneath with the mismatch he enjoyed against his defenders.
Rising star point guard Mavrick Puerto displayed his steady and consistent numbers while bruiser forward Reniel Gamboa got to the cup at will using his size and speed.
