Barangay Constancia from the Municipality of San Lorenzo was awarded as the Most Outstanding Barangay Tanod under the 4th-6th class municipality category during the Regional Search for the Outstanding Barangay Tanod and Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA) held at Festive Walk Mall in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on 23 October 2023.
The recognition is the second consecutive win for Barangay Constancia under the said category.
San Lorenzo Vice Mayor Constantino Cordero Jr. received the award along with Constancia Punong Barangay Alicia Ponce and Chief Tanod John Rey Lacrite.
Barangay Constancia took home a cash prize of Php25,000.00 and a plaque.
Meanwhile, Barangay Salvacion in the Municipality of Buenavista was hailed first runner-up under the 1st-3rd class municipality category.
A plaque and cash prize of Php15,000.00 were given to Barangay Salvacion.
Buenavista Mayor Samuel T. Gumarin was joined by Barangay Salvacion Punong Barangay Rommel Infante and Chief Tanod Rico Galve in receiving the honors.
Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 6 Director Juan Jovian E. Ingeniero, Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza Sardua and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson who is the chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council, conferred the award to the winners.
The 2023 Search for Outstanding Barangay Tanod and Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards is one of the highlights of the celebration of the 32nd Local Government Code Anniversary.
The Search for the Outstanding Barangay Tanod was institutionalized to recognize the contribution of volunteer peace-keepers in the barangay.
The nominees were evaluated based on the following criteria: legal basis for the organization of the barangay tanod, organization and functional structure, logistical and financial support, trainings, support facilities and equipment as well as accomplishments.
