Officials of the Province of Guimaras bagged the championship award in the 2019 Local Governance Quiz of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 6 held last October 28, 2019 at SM City Iloilo.
The team of Punong Barangay Ricardo Gabales Jr. of Barangay Tastasan, Buenavista; Jaylord Saplagio, Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson of Barangay San Isidro, Buenavista; and Cyrene E. Escasa, Barangay Secretary of Sapal, San Lorenzo was declared champion in the barangay category.
Meanwhile, the team of Vice Mayor Cecile Gumarin of Buenavista, Guimaras; Vice Mayor Paul Vincent dela Cruz of the Municipality of Nueva Valencia; and Catherine Anne Gaurana, Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) member of the town of San Lorenzo finished first runner-up in the municipal category.
The competition covered Easy, Average and Difficult Categories while questions thrown to the participants ranges from Provisions of the Local Government Code, DILG major programs, Local Legislation and other priority thrusts of the agency.
Winners took home cash prizes, plaque and certificates.
The outstanding Barangay Tanods and LupongTagapamayapa in the region were also recognized.
Governor Samuel T. Gumarin, chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), was also given a Certificate of Appreciation for his invaluable assistance for the conduct of the event.
The activity is in line with the commemoration of the Local Government Month every October which commemorated the enactment of the Local Government Code of 1991.
This year’s theme is: “Matino at Mahusay na PamahalaangLokal: Pundasyon ng Makatao, Mapayapa at Maunlad na Bansa”.
