BACOLOD CITY — A heated argument over money left a 91-year-old grandmother and her 26-year-old grandson dead, while her 84-year-old husband was wounded, at their home in Barangay Guinpanaan, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The fatalities were identified as Edelberta, 91, and her grandson, Chris, 26.
Edelberta’s husband, Carlos, 84, sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Maj. Ryan Villasario, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said Chris allegedly became angry after his grandmother refused to give him money.
Villasario said investigators had yet to determine how much money Chris had requested or what he intended to use it for.
The argument reportedly escalated when Chris allegedly attacked his grandmother with a bolo, striking her in the head and right hand.
Upon witnessing the attack, Carlos reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his grandson.
Chris allegedly retaliated by attacking his grandfather with the bolo, inflicting wounds to his head and right hand.
The elderly man survived and is recovering in a hospital, according to police.
Villasario said it was the first reported instance of violent behavior involving the grandson.
He added that police had yet to verify reports concerning the suspect’s possible mental health condition.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the sequence of events that led to the fatal confrontation.
