PAVIA, Iloilo — The Department of Public Works and Highways Region 6 office, or DPWH-6, is keeping its December target to complete and open the southbound lane of the long-delayed Aganan Flyover.
In a statement to the Daily Guardian, the agency said construction is progressing with the installation of steel decking, reinforcement bars for the bridge slab, and steel railings along the southbound lane.
“Based on the current progress of work, the project remains on track to meet its target completion date for the southbound lane in December 2026,” the agency said.
The southbound lane heads toward Iloilo City, while the northbound lane heads toward the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan.
The northbound lane is targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
DPWH-6 reported that four spans remained for concrete slab construction along the southbound lane, while 12 spans were still awaiting completion on the northbound side.
The concrete slab forms the flyover’s roadway deck, which carries vehicle loads and transfers them to the supporting structure.
The slab work follows the installation of concrete girders, the main beams that support the deck.
The girders connected two sections of the flyover at the intersection with Felix Gorriceta Avenue that had previously remained disconnected.
The girder installation in September and October required a series of weekend road closures and traffic rerouting at the intersection and along Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue.
Construction of the flyover began in 2020 but was suspended in 2023 after structural defects were detected in the flyover’s piers.
Work resumed in April 2026 following corrective and stabilization measures and the allocation of additional government funding.
The project had previously been targeted for completion within 2026, with the DPWH emphasizing that construction must be expedited without compromising structural safety.
