Grade 10 student killed in Dumalag bus crash

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 15-year-old Grade 10 student died after his motorcycle collided head-on with a bus Saturday afternoon, Aug. 15, in Barangay Poblacion, Dumalag, Capiz.
Police Maj. Amie Bulaqueña, chief of the Dumalag Municipal Police Station, said the victim was traveling toward the town proper on a Suzuki Smash motorcycle when he collided with a Ciudadano bus traveling toward Tapaz.
The bus, which was plying the Tapaz–Roxas City route, was driven by alias “Lito,” 49, a resident of Barangay Quinayuya, Dao, Capiz.
The victim, identified as alias Toto, 15, suffered fatal injuries to his head and other parts of his body because of the impact.
He was taken to Sen. Gerry Roxas Memorial District Hospital in Dao and later referred to Iloilo Mission Hospital in Iloilo City, where an attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Police investigators said the victim was not wearing a helmet and that the newly repaired motorcycle was being taken for a test drive.
The bus driver is in the custody of the Dumalag Municipal Police Station pending proper disposition of the case.
Police said the victim’s family does not intend to file charges against the bus driver.
