The Golden State Warriors are signing veteran center Al Horford to a multi-year contract, confirmed on Sept. 29, 2025.
It was ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania who first made Golden State’s offseason move public through a verified discussion with Horford’s agent.
Terms of the deal — including salary, final-year options, and eligibility clauses — were not disclosed.
Hours before the news broke, Horford bade the Boston Celtics franchise goodbye via a social media post on his official X account.
“From the moment we arrived, you have welcomed my family and me with open arms,” Horford posted.
“This chapter in my career will hold a special place in my heart. Raising banner 18 with this city will be a moment I will always cherish. I am forever grateful for the fans and the organization. Thank you, Boston.”
Before agreeing to a deal with the Warriors, Horford spent the last seven seasons of his NBA career with the Celtics, where he won an NBA championship and reached the Finals twice.
Horford helped build the winning culture that Boston enjoyed during his tenure, which quickly transformed the squad into yearly championship contenders.
However, Horford and the Celtics failed to win back-to-back NBA titles when they lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks in six games, marking their earliest postseason exit since the 2021 season.
The five-time NBA All-Star became a free agent this summer, but he and Boston’s front office failed to agree on terms that would keep him for another season.
Instead of waiting for the Celtics’ counteroffer, Horford decided to move to the Western Conference and will team up with Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, forming the newest Big 4 in the Bay Area.
In 42 games played last season wearing the green and white jersey, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest.
