Globe Expands Digital Safety Program Nationwide

Globe Telecom has scaled up its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), educating 6,196 participants nationwide on digital citizenship, cybersecurity, and ethical technology use to combat the rising prevalence of online scams.

In November alone, Globe reached 450 participants across Ilocos Sur, Pampanga, Rizal, and Davao del Norte, equipping students and parents with essential knowledge to protect themselves online.

A Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) study revealed that one in three Filipinos was targeted by fraud in the past year, despite 73% believing they could recognize scams.

“With the accelerated digital transformation comes growing online threats, particularly fraud, to which more and more Filipinos fall victim every day,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

She added, “If our young people are aware of what to look out for and how to protect themselves online, they will get to enjoy the benefits of technology safely, spared from becoming another scam statistic.”

DTP Roadshow Empowers Communities

Globe launched its DTP roadshow at Sto. Niño Central Elementary School in Talingod, Davao del Norte, where over 150 parents participated in cybersecurity workshops.

“The training provides us with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of the telecommunications landscape,” said School Principal Assistant Cornelio Bangoy.

At the University of Northern Philippines in Ilocos Sur, Globe educated 200 ICT students during Tech Week on AI ethics and responsible technology use. The event also featured internship opportunities, campus connectivity enhancements, and interactive activities supported by Globe’s brand TM.

Assistant Dean Maribel Tagla of the UNP College of Communication – Information Technology, expressed her appreciation, saying, “It’s refreshing to see companies leading efforts to educate young people about such critical topics.”

At Don Honorio Ventura State University in Pampanga, 70 student leaders learned about cybersecurity and online safety. Janaica Sus, a student council leader, praised the program for fostering a safer online environment.

The initiative also reached Rapha’s Ministry in Antipolo, engaging 30 participants in a workshop focused on spotting fraud and practicing proper social media etiquette.

Globe’s Broader Digital Safety Commitment

The DTP aligns with Globe’s broader advocacy for creating secure digital spaces. By the end of Q3 2024, Globe blocked 162.7 million spam and scam SMS, 20,509 scam-linked SIMs, and over 167,000 malicious URLs and domains.

In addition to its educational efforts, Globe actively blocks gambling sites, pirate content, and platforms hosting child pornography.
