Globe AT HOME is expanding its community-based broadband support network across the Visayas, opening additional barangay broadband centers aimed at making fiber internet services more accessible to households, particularly in areas located far from traditional service centers.
The telecommunications provider said the initiative seeks to address challenges faced by many families in learning about available broadband services and completing subscription applications, especially in underserved and geographically dispersed communities.
According to DataReportal, the Philippines had 97.5 million internet users as of January 2025, equivalent to 83.8% of the country’s population, underscoring the growing role of internet connectivity in education, work, business, government services, and daily communication.
The new barangay-based broadband centers are located within communities and serve as access points where residents can inquire about Globe Fiber plans, verify service availability, receive application assistance, and obtain guidance throughout the subscription process.
Globe said dedicated broadband representatives are assigned to these locations to assist walk-in customers and conduct outreach activities in nearby neighborhoods, helping more households understand available connectivity options.
The company said strengthening its presence at the barangay level allows residents to access information about home internet services without the need to travel long distances.
“Reliable connectivity has become essential for education, work, business, and everyday life. By bringing broadband services closer to communities, we are making it easier for more families to access the opportunities that come with a strong internet connection,” said Jimbo Cordero, Globe general manager for Visayas.
The expansion comes as demand for stable internet access continues to grow across the country, driven by the increasing use of digital platforms for education, remote work, e-commerce, online banking, government transactions, and entertainment.
Globe said access to fiber internet can support students attending online classes, conducting research, submitting school requirements, and accessing digital learning resources from home.
The company added that connected households can also perform government transactions, banking activities, bill payments, and job applications online without having to leave their communities.
For small business owners and home-based entrepreneurs, dependable internet service can help strengthen digital visibility, maintain customer engagement, and support business growth through online platforms.
Globe also highlighted the growing demand for high-bandwidth applications, including video streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, smart home technologies, and artificial intelligence-powered tools that increasingly require reliable broadband connections across multiple devices.
The company said the rollout will continue this June with new broadband centers opening in Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Samar, Leyte, Bohol, and Cebu.
Globe has already established community-based broadband access points in Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Oriental, Samar, Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Aklan, Capiz, and Antique.
Residents in participating barangays are encouraged to visit their nearest Globe broadband center to learn about available plans, check service coverage, and apply for Globe Fiber services.
The initiative forms part of Globe’s broader effort to expand digital inclusion and improve connectivity access in local communities, as internet access becomes increasingly critical to economic participation and social development in the Philippines.
