DTI trains 800 Aklan stakeholders in cyber hygiene
KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Trade and Industry-Aklan Provincial Office and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resource Development Foundation Inc. trained more than 800 business owners, organization members, and local government employees on safer online practices.
The partners conducted 17 Cyber Hygiene Training sessions across all municipalities in Aklan from July 7 to 27, 2026.
The initiative is intended to help micro, small, and medium enterprises protect their operations, customer information, and digital transactions as online scams and other cyber risks become more common.
Improved cybersecurity awareness is particularly important for small businesses because a compromised mobile device, account, or transaction can disrupt operations, expose sensitive information, and erode customer trust.
Aklan was the first province in Western Visayas to roll out the training activity.
Negosyo Center business counselors and local government units assisted in organizing the sessions throughout the province.
The participants included micro, small, and medium enterprises, business organizations, and local government unit employees.
“This Cyber Hygiene Training is indeed relevant in today’s digital environment where online scams and other online risks have become rampant. We hope that the participants maximize their learnings and help us spread awareness in ensuring that online transactions are done correctly and safely,” DTI-Aklan Officer-in-Charge Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto said.
Ronald So and Cherry Pearl Lopez of the PCCI Human Resource Development Foundation served as resource speakers.
The sessions introduced participants to the concept of cyber hygiene and its basic principles.
The training also provided practical tips for securing mobile devices used in personal and business transactions.
Participants were taught skills intended to help them navigate the internet safely and confidently.
Raissa V. Juada assisted in implementing the training sessions.
The series was conducted by DTI-Aklan in partnership with the PCCI Human Resource Development Foundation from July 7 to 27, 2026.
