Maverick Ahanmisi finally got what he wanted.
After publicly revealing his desire to leave Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in a vlog posted on his official YouTube account, the SMC franchise didn’t waste any time and granted his wish, shipping him to the Terrafirma Dyip, with the move confirmed on Oct. 15, 2025.
Under the approved trade package, Ginebra traded Ahanmisi, together with veteran forward Aljon Mariano, in exchange for Terrafirma’s first-round pick in the upcoming PBA Season 51 Draft.
Multiple reports said the trade was processed after the PBA board officially approved the proposal.
Six days ago, Ahanmisi surprised the whole PBA community when he included his conversation with SMC sports director Alfrancis Chua in his vlog.
At the 9:52 mark of the video, Ahanmisi screencapped his text messages with Chua, in which he initiated the trade conversation.
“With a lot of thought I would like to request for a trade,” Ahanmisi texted.
Chua simply replied: “It’s up to you.”
In recent months, Ahanmisi’s departure from Ginebra became a hot topic, with several Filipino journalists, including Snow Badua, a veteran PBA insider, revealing the situation on his official Facebook page.
Fast forward to the start of the PBA Philippine Cup, Ahanmisi hinted that he was leaving Ginebra after wearing street clothes in their opening game against the Magnolia Hotshots Chicken Timplados.
In 65 games as a member of the Gin Kings, Ahanmisi averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 21.8 minutes of playing time.
Meanwhile, Mariano, who is one of the longest-tenured Ginebra mainstays, ends his 10-year service and will play for a different team for the first time in his PBA career.
