The pride of General Santos City, Jayson Mama will try to end the curse South African boxing icon Moruti Mthalane has inflicted on every Filipino boxer he faced.
Out of the last six Filipinos who faced Mthalane, none of them had success which Mama will try to change in their highly-anticipated bout for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) 118-pound championship belt.
One of the victims that Mthalane defeated was Johnriel Casimero, the former three-weight division world title-holder and the current WBO bantamweight champion.
Fighting under the helm of Sanman Promotions, Mama and his camp believe that they have the tools to outwork the South African beast.
Sanman head JC Manangquil admitted that Mthalane will have the experience and ring advantage against a young Mama but Manangquil believes that the Filipino will be able to outwork his opponent.
Chief trainer Ronerex Dalut and deputy trainer Jefti Tinamisan will accompany Mama going to South Africa where the bout will be held.
