GCash assures users of account safety after alleged data breach

Mobile wallet GCash said it has launched a probe on the alleged breach of its know-your-customer (KYC) data and found no indications it was compromised.

Cyber advocacy group Deep Web Konek on Thursday reported that KYC data, such as IDs, selfies, and signatures were allegedly exposed online.

Meanwhile, GCash said its clients’ accounts are safe. It said it launched an investigation right away when it learned about the alleged hacking.

“Based on our initial findings, there are no indications of a data breach in our systems and this has no impact on customer funds and their accounts remain safe and secure,” the fintech giant said.

GCash said it was working with Philippine regulators and authorities.

“We remind our customers to protect their personal information and regularly update their passwords and MPIN,” it added.
