Robert Bolick’s Japan B. League stint was short-lived after the Fukushima Firebonds decided to release him from their official roster last October 19, 2023.
The development was officially announced by Fukushima’s president Hajime Nishida via a social media update.
Bolick was supposed to reinforce the Firebonds after signing a two-year contract several months ago and was expected to deliver right away as their Asian import.
The microwave guard already debuted for Fukushima last October 7, 2023, where the squad outdueled the Yamagata Wyverns, 82-71.
Bolick was quick to introduce himself in the B. League after finishing the game with an efficient stat line of 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
However, questions started to surround the Firebonds after Bolick failed to suit up for the squad’s next set of games.
According to Nishida, it was Bolick who requested a contract termination. Despite Fukushima’s counter offers, the Filipino guard still wanted to part ways.
“Bolick was the first player announced as the first contract in this season’s lineup, and the club had high expectations for him,” said Nishida.
Multiple reports then confirmed that Bolick would be returning home to the Philippines due to the pregnancy of his wife, Cassandra.
As of this writing, it is yet to be known if Bolick will be playing again in the PBA or find another home overseas.
