Firecracker blast damages house in Negros Occ

BACOLOD CITY — A room in a single-story house used to store firecrackers was damaged in an explosion Wednesday night in Purok Tuway, Barangay Canmoros, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
Fire Officer 1 Exxon Ylosorio, arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection–Binalbagan, said the 72-year-old house owner and his wife were having dinner when the explosion occurred around 7:18 p.m.
They immediately called for assistance while their helpers tried to put out the fire.
Ylosorio said the blaze did not spread to other parts of the house, and no injuries were reported.
The fire was declared out at 7:38 p.m.
Although the sale of firecrackers is prohibited in Binalbagan, the elderly homeowner claimed they were kept for personal use.
Damage was estimated at PHP 240,000.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
