A Filipino once again emerged victorious against the best taekwondo jins in the world after clinching the gold medal during the 2020 World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Open Championship.
University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) taekwondo superstar Darius Venerable notched the gold medal after scoring an impressive 7.02 in the final round of the tournament.
Venerable managed to hold off the surging Kim Ji Won of South Korea who scored 6.800 to secure the silver medal behind the PH taekwondo ace.
Co-Filipino jins Zyka Santiago and Nastassia Limos managed to win the bronze medal in the women’s freestyle category.
Venerable is a 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) national team member who helped the Philippines secure a silver medal finish in the mixed team freestyle event.
With UAAP likely to return next year under a bubble, the UST taekwondo star will seek to continue his stellar performance and deliver a championship to his university when collegiate sports finally return.
