The whole FIBA organization decided to slap participating country Korea with a fine of PHP8.6-million pesos following an absence during the last FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers window held in Bahrain, Manama.
Due to the COVID-19 scare, the Korean Basketball Association previously decided not to join the Manama bubble last November.
Due to their absence, the International Basketball Federation’s Disciplinary Panel announced that they are going to fine Korea with CHF160,000 (PHP8.6-M).
Aside from the fine, Korea will be facing a two-point deduction in their recent FIBA standings in Group A.
The two-point deduction in their standings will put them in the last place despite holding a perfect 2-0 record.
The Philippines is still at the number one spot with seven points, followed by the Indonesian team with five points on a 1-2 record.
Meanwhile, China and Chinese-Taipei, who were also out of the previous bubble, were penalized to the same degree including the fine and the point deduction.
