A farmer ended up dead after challenging a CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) member to a fight late afternoon of March 1, 2022 in a hinterland village of Tapaz, Capiz.
Gideon Olido, 33, Sitio Cubay, Barangay Daan Sur, Tapaz, was allegedly drunk when the incident happened.
At around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Olido went to the store of suspect Benrio Damas, which is just in front of CAA Daan Sur Patrol Base.
Without any reason or provocation, the suspect drew his working bolo tucked in his waist.
He then threatened to hack the 29-year-old Damas.
Damas, who is a resident of the nearby Nayawan, Tapaz, grabbed his 12-gauge shotgun and fired a warning shot in a bid to stop the victim from attacking him.
But it allegedly did not deter Olido from inching towards the suspect.
This prompted the suspect to shoot the victim on the lower right portion of his abdomen.
When Olido fell, Damas took the bolo and hacked the victim on the right side of his head down to his neck.
Responding PNP personnel of Tapaz Police Station took the victim to Tapaz District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect fled after the incident.
Recovered from the crime scene were two casings of 12-gauge ammunition.
